North Dakota Motorcycle Driver’s License
Basic Requirements for the License
In order to get a motorcycle driver’s license, you must be a North Dakota resident of at least 14 years old. The state requires all operators of motorcycles to have a valid regular driver’s license with a Class M endorsement. When applying for a Class M permit, you have to:- Provide all necessary identification.
- Provide your social security number
- Pass the vision test.
- If you do not have a valid Class A, B, C or D North Dakota license, you will be required to get and pass a regular driver’s license (Class D) written test before you will be allowed to take the written exam intended for the Class M endorsement.
- Applicants who are under 18 years old must provide a parent or guardian’s consent.
- Pay the required fees.

- Provide proof that you are enrolled in or have successfully completed a state approved motorcycle safety course.
- Have held a Class M permit for a minimum of two months before you will be allowed to take the road test.
- If you were able to meet both requirements stated above, the state may waived your road skills test requirement depending on the discretion of the state.

- Your own motorcycle which must pass a pre-test equipment inspection.
- Your Class M license.
- Check or money order to pay the test fee and endorsement.
Required Documents
When applying for a Class M endorsement, you will need to provide proof of identification. Before you head to your local North Dakota DOT office, make sure that you have the following required documents to get your motorcycle driver’s license:- US birth certificate
- Valid US passport
- Valid foreign passport with an I-94 or an I-551 stamp
- US government-issued consular report of birth abroad
- Military identification card or common access card
- US court order displaying your legal name and date of birth
- I-551 resident alien or permanent resident card
- I-668 temporary resident card
- I688B, I-766 employment authorization card
- N560 certificate of citizenship
- N550 certificate of naturalization
- I-94 card stamped refugee or asylee
