Basic Requirements for the License
For new applicants who are over 18 years of age, the following are the requirements to obtain a motorcycle driver’s license or endorsement:- Complete the application form and submit the original copy in person at your local BMV office.
- Have your picture taken and provide a thumb print.
- Pay the application fee.
- Pass the vision test
- Pass the signs and traffic laws examination.
- Set up an appointment to take your written examination with your local BMV office.

- Have you parents or guardian sign on the financial liability forms.
- Present proof that you are enrolled at an ABATE motorcycle course.
- Provide proof of identity.
- Present your social security number.

Note: You have to complete the items above in order to get an instruction permit valid for a year. You can use this permit to complete an American Bikers Aimed Towards Education course.
The following are the restrictions of your Instruction Permit:- You have to complete an ABATE course so that you can drive on a public road or highway.
- Must be accompanied by a licensed adult over 18 years old and have held a valid driver’s license.
- You are not allowed to carry any passengers.
- You are not allowed to drive at night.
- Must wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle

- Applicants who are 16 years old through 18 must have had a permit for at least one month.
- Complete the motorcycle driver training course offered by ABATE in Indiana.
- Present proof of completion or course completion card at your local BMV office.

- Take the driving test at your local BMV office.
