Connecticut Motorcycle Driver’s License
Basic Requirements for the License
The motorcycle permit is valid for 60 days and will allow you to practice riding a motorcycle before applying for a motorcycle endorsement. To get a permit, visit any DMV office and provide the following:- Valid Connecticut driver’s license.
- A notarized Certificate of Parental Consent or (Form 2-D) for applicants who are under 18 years old.
- Complete application for Non-commercial Driver’s License or (Form R-229).
- Pay testing fee worth $40 for motorcycle knowledge and vision test. IF you fail the exam a re-exam is allowed after the initial failure and will have to pay another $40. See acceptable forms of payment.
- Pass the motorcycle knowledge and vision test. Study the Connecticut Motorcycle Manual and the Connecticut Driver’s Manual.
- Permit is valid only in Connecticut.
- Valid only during daylight.
- You are not allowed to transport passengers.
- No driving on multiple-lane highways.
- Must wear vision protection, helmet or protective headgear.
The Motorcycle Safety Training Course
After getting a motorcycle permit, you are required to complete a mandatory DMV approved motorcycle safety course then apply for an endorsement. The course should be approved by the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles which is valid for two years. Once you have completed the motorcycle safety course, you must visit a full-service regional hub office to get your “M” endorsement added to your Connecticut Driver’s license. Note: A person 18 years of age or older is allowed to practice driving without a learner’s permit as long as the privilege given to them to drive hasn’t been suspended or revoked in any state. To obtain a Connecticut Motorcycle Driver’s license, applicants who are over 18 must:- Present important documents as acceptable forms of identification.
- Complete an application for non-commercial driver’s license or the Form R-229.
- Show proof of attending and completing an 8 hours course on Safe Driver’s Practices.
- Pay your fees.
- Pass the written knowledge test, road test and vision screening test.
- Remember that on-the-road test is not administered on the same day as the knowledge test. See walk-in testing hours.
- Have a valid Connecticut motorcycle driver’s license.
- Have a valid Connecticut driver’s license.
- Certificates that verify your completion of DMV-approved motorcycle safety training course.
- Drivers who are 18 years old and above are not allowed transporting passengers for the first 90 days since they obtain a motorcycle endorsement.
- Drivers who are 16 and 17 years old are not allowed to transport any passenger on a motorcycle for six months after getting the endorsement.
